These scholarships are to assist a son or daughter of a Fire Department member who is a member in good standing of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Fire Services. The $300.00 is to help finance the first year of higher education in a university, college or institute of his or her choice.

June 6th, 2011 Federal Firefighter Tax Credit Reintroduced
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty reintroduced a $3,000 tax credit for volunteer firefighters in this afternoon's federal budget in Ottawa. This was the same tax credit that was defeated when the government fell and forced an election. Now, along with the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Tax Credit, volunteer firefighters have extra to be happy about.
