Since the Brief presentation in December , I have been busy with association activities. In February, I participated in CAFC Government Relations week in Ottawa where we represented NL on the Federal fire scene. As I am now an elected board member with Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, Fire Chief Duane Antle was appointed to represent us as NL Association representative on the National Advisory council of which I can no longer participate as I am now a CAFC executive board member. Therefore, both Duane and I were both in Ottawa to meet with MP and and attend board meetings. We had a productive 3 days meeting several key ministers and MP on areas of fire services nationally. Key topics this year were lobbying for federal training program for first responders to rail incidents and haz-mat incidents, Sprinkler protection for facilities of vulnerable populations, and funding for Canada's Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Teams.
