As another school year comes to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners, educators, you the firefighters, and our board for their continued support of our Learn Not to Burn program.
During the past 15 months, our program has been delivered much differently to our schools, focusing on the most efficient and effective way to deliver our fire prevention message. In person presentations were not possible this year because of COVID 19 restrictions and were therefore presented virtually. Many thanks to the staff at NL911 for the space and the technical support needed to bring our program to the classrooms. We distributed approximately 20,000 educational items to 80 plus schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador which helped to keep our message in the schools as well as provided an opportunity to keep in contact with teachers for future visits.
We have been working on a fire safety contest for students but due to school closures we were unable to continue this project, however it will be launched in the new school year. Also, during this past year, we have been working with an outside agency to deliver a fire prevention message which will be revealed next school year.
In closing, even though our program was delivered much differently this year we are hopeful that in person presentations will resume in the next school year. Take care.
